When it comes to examining the value of the products and services that are emerging from CTC, financial potential is an imprtant consideration. You can hear about business prototyping in ‘Pioneering Products’ where the prototype project Tabletop Travels is introduced. But CTC also brings social and cultural value alongside that economic value: we have shown creative businesses and social enterprises the benefits of adjusting their offer in consideration of minoritised older adults; we have supported those businesses through an extremely difficult moment post-COVID by providing work as co-designers; we have challenged the creative tech industry to shift its point of view away from young white men; we have developed approaches to arts programming for health which can be used by social prescribers. In 2023, ‘Tabletop Travels ‘won further funding from UK Research and Innovation through their Healthy Ageing Catalyst Award, to develop an entrepreneurial approach to delivering at scale. You can hear about the new ‘Tabletop Travels’ by clicking the audio file on this page. It will be a social enterprise which delivers subscription boxes to isolated older people in their homes. The boxes contain food, drink, activities, souvenir objects, a cultural guide and links to audio and video stories about a destination – immersing and transporting the recipient through their senses. Striving for economic success means that more people can receive boxes and enjoy the experience. Cultural value is generated as the world expands and is enriched, and social value is generated when the excitement of the box and its contents starts conversations with friends, family or carers. The new ‘Tabletop Travels’ will be presented to a panel of investors in June 2024.
